Do Bacon and Pizza Rolls really belong in the same sentence? And BBQ sauce on top of that? When my hubby (Dave) mentioned trying a new recipe he’d been seeing on Instagram, I won’t lie, I was pretty hesitant. BUT, let me just say, I am glad I went along with him! Yummmmmm! This unlikely combination made for a great appetizer to enjoy while watching some Saturday college football.
What you will need:
- Frozen Pizza Rolls (We used Totino’s Combination Rolls)
- BBQ Rub (We used Killer Hogs BBQ Rub)
- BBQ Sauce (We used Sweet Baby Rays)
- Frank’s Red Hot Sauce
Dave is a huge fan of using his smoker so we opted to go with this method of cooking but you could use your oven if you don’t have access to a smoker. He began by preheating the smoker to 300 degrees. You would need to preheat your oven to the same. He then arranged the pizza rolls on a large baking sheet. Next, he cut two packages of bacon in half and wrapped each pizza roll with a half of a slice of bacon and placed it back on the pan. Once all the rolls were wrapped, he sprinkled some Killer Hog BBQ seasoning and topped them off with a drizzle of Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce. He then place them in the smoker and let them cook until the bacon was crispy to our liking. This was about 45 minutes.
For the final step, Dave combined about 1/4 cup Ranch and approximately 8-10 drops of Frank’s Hot Sauce to make a yummy dip. He drizzled it on top of the rolls and they were ready to eat! We were all amazed at how delicious these turned out. There wasn’t a sign these had even been around by the end of the football game! They were definitely a hit with the Crum Family and something we have added to our list of favorite appetizers.
